The Smoking Gun - Neon Noir Still Life Tribute

Another evening at home with nothing but ideas, this still life was shot as a tribute to the "neon noir" crime thrillers of the 1980's

Tech Details

Set: In studio, black sheet as backdrop

Lights: Canon 580exII from top left with red gel, LumoPro LP160 with blue gel from below, both gridded with Rogue speedlight grids

Other Notes: I used matches which create lots of smoke when extinguished to get the smoke effect. This image is straight out of camera, no post processing whatsoever.

Racquel - A Last Minute Portrait Session

I had an opening for a quick portrait session on a rainy day, and local hair stylist and old Hollywood enthusiast Racquel came by to do a last minute shoot. She's awesome.

Tech Details

Set: In studio on grey seamless

Lights: Calumet Genesis in medium softbox camera right, Calumet Genesis with reflector camera left to the rear

Hello Darling - A Noir Themed Tribute

I am a fan of both the Noir genre and the movie stars of old. As such, I thought it might be fun and interesting to do a noir themed photo shoot tribute to Ava Gardner. I called my friend (and muse) Blanca and got her in the studio.

Tech Info

Set: An old round dining table with a wall behind

Lights:

Key light is a Canon 580exII overhead in a beauty dish that is in the frame to look like an overhead lamp.

Background light is a bare LumoPro LP160 with yours truly casting the sinister shadow

Another LumoPro LP160 was bounced off a reflector from low camera left to fill Blanca's face slightly.

Other Info: Wardrobe was lent from GoJane.com. Hair and make up by my lovely wife.
